Who should attend the Gateway to Freedom (GTF) workshop?
The GTF workshop is for men (married, single, or divorced; age 18 or older) who display any of the following characteristics:
- Regular use of pornography
- Have had one or more affairs
- Habitual masturbation
- Lying to hide secret sexual behaviors
- Feelings of intense shame over sexual behaviors
- Desire to deal aggressively with lust struggles
- Secret sexual fantasies
- Experienced unwanted sexual encounters during childhood or adolescence
Is there a limit to the number of men who can attend?
Yes! There is limited space for each workshop, therefore only the first 20 men to register will secure a spot. So, be sure to register early to ensure your space at the workshop. If the workshop fills up, you will be offered an opening on the next upcoming workshop date.
Why do you limit the workshop to only 20 men?
Real transformation often occurs in a small group setting. By limiting the number of men attending the GTF workshop, it allows for more interaction among all the men. Smaller groups prevent a man from feeling like a number and provides each man with quality attention and care. Breakout groups are, therefore, never larger than 10 men, usually around 7-8 in each group.
How is the workshop material presented?
Jonathan Daugherty
(Main Workshop Speaker)
Jonathan received degrees in Communication and Psychology from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. He currently serves as executive director of Be Broken Ministries and hosts a weekly radio program, Pure Sex Radio. He is in demand nationally as a speaker for sexual integrity issues. After 13 years of sexual addiction nearly ruined his marriage and career, Jonathan got help and, since 2000, has been helping men win the battle for sexual purity.
Stephen Cervantes
(Small Group Leader)
Stephen is a member of the board of directors for Be Broken Ministries, the parent organization of Gateway to Freedom, and founder of Hope Counseling Center (www.hopecounseling.com). He has served as vice chairman of the board since the formation of the ministry in summer 2003. He is also the co-founder of the Men of Purity movement (www.menofpurity.com). Stephen has over 20 years of counseling experience.
Lee Preston
(Small Group Leader)
Lee is a member of the board of directors for Be Broken Ministries. He has a Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology and over 15 years of experience in the counseling field; he believes that it is only through the guidance of the Holy Spirit that true healing can take place. Lee is the founder of Shadow of His Wings Ministry (www.shadowofhiswingsministry.com).
Small Group Leaders - We have a team of licensed professional counselors who facilitate the small group sessions where men process the information contained in the main teaching sessions. These counselors are required to have at least 5 years experience in dealing with men struggling with sexual purity issues.
Is there an application process for registering for the workshop?
Yes and no. While there is no formal, or clinical, application process to register for the GTF workshop, we do screen each potential participant to ensure that they are a good fit for the program (this is accomplished by completing a short questionnaire). For instance, the GTF workshop would not be a good fit for someone battling alcohol or drug addictions. This program is geared specifically for men struggling with sexually addictive thoughts and behaviors.
How often do the workshops occur?
The GTF workshop is scheduled periodically throughout the year, with a maximum of 12 workshops for any calendar year (currently, anyway). For a complete schedule of current workshop dates, visit our online calendar, or call our toll free number at the top of this page (M-F 9am-3pm CST).
Where are the workshops located?
All current GTF workshops are held near San Antonio, Texas in the beautiful hill country (north of SA, south of Austin). Directions will be provided once registration is complete. Attendees traveling by air to San Antonio will be provided with complimentary shuttle service to the retreat center (approximately 45 minutes from SA airport). Shuttle service for air travelers will run only once on Friday morning (8:30 am) with return service included on Sunday after the final session of the workshop.
